Paul & Tom
Welcome to you all
Paul & Tom Downey - Dad & Son
Our Family - Pam (mum), Paul (dad), Ryan, Rebecca, Tom & Anna (kids)
Sport is my music; football is my guitar.
Heavily influenced in sport initially with by my six brothers John, Mark, Brian, Martin, Stephen and Andrew, my mum Anne Downey (nee Ryan) and my grandad Denis Ryan, both from Manchester.
After playing and coaching semi-professional football and also coaching golf for young starters, joining the Senior Footgolf tour back in 2013 felt natural and a wonderful new lease of life.
I won my first UK National Seniors Footgolf title on the 9th October 2016 winning the East Region final following a sudden death playoff against northern powerhouse Stewart Paisley.
In 2021, age 60, I won the UK Masters (FIFG World ranking Men's tournament ) following a 4 way playoff that included world number 1 Ben Clarke.
In 2023, I joined the FGAoE (FootGolf Association of England) tour and with my son Tom as caddie, we won the 2023 Over 55 national title and on the 16th September we received our 1st international cap playing for England in the 2023 Brainstrust Cup contested between England, Scotland & Wales at Flint Mountain GC in Wales.
I look forward to Footgolf becoming an Olympic sport in the near future.
Footgolf skills, especially dead ball kick scenarios are very relevant to the game of Football. The game also provides a fantastic wellbeing bridge for amateur and professional footballers after they have finished playing competitive football but still want to compete with a ball!
Never too Old!
